The relationship between client and counsellor is protected. Information cannot be disclosed without your written consent, except in the following situations:
- The counsellor suspects there is past or present abuse or neglect of children, adults or elders, which, as duty of care, the counsellor is required by law to report to the appropriate authorities.
- The counsellor suspects the client is in danger of seriously harming themselves or has threated to seriously harm another person. Here, the duty of care requires that the counsellor notifies both the police and the intended victim.
- Records are subpoedaed by the court
